Un collettivo artistico sta sperimentando una tecnica insolita: la pittura con il fumo, che chiamano smoke-ography. L’idea nasce dai segni spontanei lasciati con gli accendini sui muri delle scale nella Russia degli anni ’90 e si intreccia con suggestioni più cupe dell’arte contemporanea. Il percorso, tutt’altro che semplice, li ha portati a bruciare materiali diversi, usare fumogeni colorati e stencil, fino a trovare modi inaspettati per conservare opere così fragili. Più che una tecnica, è un viaggio fatto di tentativi, errori e piccole scoperte che continua ancora oggi.

An artist collective is exploring an unusual medium: painting with smoke, which they call smoke-ography. Inspired by the spontaneous lighter marks on Russian stairwell walls in the 1990s and the darker tones of contemporary art, their path has been experimental and unpredictable. They’ve burned different materials, worked with colored smoke grenades and stencils, and even searched for ways to preserve such fragile works — eventually finding unexpected solutions. More than a technique, it’s an ongoing journey of trials, mistakes, and discoveries.
