Ricostruire con l’arte a Gaza / Rebuilding Through Art in Gaza

Ho conosciuto l’artista palestinese Rufaida Sehwail mentre incontravo online artisti di Gaza per uno dei prossimi numeri della fanzine The Journey. Ha scelto di non partecipare. In questa scelta c’è una esperienza profonda, una storia di dolore e di resistenza che da qui è difficile immaginare.

Rufaida dipinge da 17 anni trasformando la sofferenza palestinese in arte e speranza. Durante la guerra la sua casa è stata distrutta sotto i bombardamenti. Ha perso tutto, il suo studio, la sua biblioteca e oltre 400 opere, ma non ha smesso di dare. Da allora, anche se costretta a spostarsi più volte, continua a offrire sostegno psicologico ai bambini sfollati insegnando loro come l’arte possa aiutare a guarire e a ricominciare.

Oggi Rufaida chiede aiuto non solo per sé ma per poter continuare la sua missione: ricostruire il suo studio, sostenere la propria famiglia e creare un programma di arte-terapia per i bambini colpiti dalla guerra.

Sostenere Rufaida significa credere che l’arte possa ancora costruire anche tra le macerie.

I met the Palestinian artist Rufaida Sehwail while meeting online with artists from Gaza for an upcoming issue of The Journey fanzine. She has chosen not to take part in the project. Behind this decision lies a deep experience, a story of pain and resistance that is hard for us to truly grasp.

For 17 years Rufaida has turned Palestinian suffering into art and hope. During the war her home was destroyed in the bombings. She lost everything, her studio, her library and more than 400 artworks, but she never stopped giving. Even while displaced several times she continues to offer psychological support to children affected by the war, teaching them how art can help them heal and start again.

Now Rufaida is asking for help not just for herself but to continue her mission to rebuild her studio, support her family and create an art therapy program for children affected by the war.

Supporting Rufaida means believing that art can still rebuild even among the ruins.
